Teenage pregnancies


Herefordshire has had lower conception rates than both the West Midlands region and England as a whole over the reporting period, with current figures, 32.5 conceptions per 1,000 girls age 15-17, being much lower than the West Midlands region (46.5) and England (41.4).

Herefordshire's figures had been steadily decreasing between 98-00 and 04-06 (from 38.2 to 31.9 under 18 conceptions) until 05-07 when there was a noticeable increase to 32.5. Both the West Midlands and England also saw a rate increase in 05-07.

In 05-07, Herefordshire's conception rate for under 18s was 30% below the West Midlands, 21% below England and still 15% less than in 98-00,.
