Life Expectancy
Life expectancy for Herefordshire's population has increased since 1991-93. On average, Herefordshire's females are expected to live on average 2.7 years longer in 2004-06 than in 1991-93. Life expectancy for males increased by 3 years over the same period. However, females are expected to live longer than males in Herefordshire, the West Midlands and England.

Male life expectancy in Herefordshire is higher than that for the West Midlands region. Over the monitoring period, Herefordshire's life expectancy for males was higher than that for England as a whole, with the exception of 2004-06, when they were at similar levels.

Female life expectancy in Herefordshire is higher than that expected for females in the West Midlands region and across England as a whole. There is quite a wide gap between Herefordshire and regionally and nationally. This gap increased during 2004-06 from 03-05, when Herefordshire's female life expectancy declined slightly narrowing the gap with England.

The difference between male and female life expectancy at birth, has remained fairly similar over the monitoring period. Life expectancy for males has typically been around 6% lower than that for females (a ratio of 0.94 male:female).
