The 6th annual State of Herefordshire Report (produced by Herefordshire Partnership Research Officers) is now available to view or download from this page.

The report is linked to the Community Strategy for Herefordshire, which sets out 'outcomes' or aspirations for the county by 2020 and how they might be achieved. The Strategy is the culmination of a significant review carried out during 2005, replacing the Herefordshire Plan which was first produced in 1999.

A number of key performance indicators (KPI) have been chosen to monitor progress towards these outcomes.  The State of Herefordshire Report provides trend data for these KPIs and other supplementary indicators (PI), together with relevant contextual facts and figures. Wherever possible, comparative data is presented to allow benchmarking.

The report is divided into the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • List of indicators highlighting links to outcomes,  which are KPIs and  also which are part of Herefordshire Council Local Public Service Agreement (LPSA) and the Local Area Agreement (LAA).
  • General Contextual Information including population statistics, deprivation and information about quality of life.
  • Economic Development and Enterprise including economic data such as earnings, economic activity, GVA, qualification levels as well as distance and method of travel to work, traffic congestions and air pollution (NO2 levels)
  • Healthier Communities and Older People including life expectancy and mortality rates, disabilities, healthy lifestyles, housing, numbers of older people and vulnerable adults helped to live at home and benefit take up rates.
  • Children and Young People includes relevant information structured around the 5 themes of the Every Child Matters Framework; health, safety, educational and personal standards, positive behaviour and further education, training and employment.
  • Safer and Stronger Communities includes levels of crime in Herefordshire, mortality rates from accidents and numbers of people killed and seriously injured, household waste, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and river quality.  Access to services and facilities as well has how people feel about aspects of their community.
  • Appendix including further information about references, a key word index and a list of tables, charts and maps.

New sources of data for this year's report include the Teenage Lifestyle Survey 2006 (Herefordshire Council/Herefordshire Primary Care Trust) and Herefordshire Satisfaction Survey 2006.  Also where possible, data for the South Wye area of Herefordshire is presented alongside that for the county as a whole.
